Maidstone Borough Council has paid tribute to outgoing Mayor, Conservative Councillor Martin Round, following a successful and hardworking year in office representing the borough.
During his time as Mayor, Martin championed mental health awareness, supported local charities and community organisations, and attended hundreds of events across Maidstone, always promoting the borough with pride, warmth and enthusiasm.
Councillors from across the chamber praised Martin’s dedication, humour and commitment throughout his mayoral year. In response, Martin reflected on the many memorable events and people he had encountered during his time in office and thanked council staff, volunteers and residents for their support.
The meeting also saw the appointment of Conservative Councillor Dennis Spooner as Deputy Mayor. Dennis was warmly praised for his many years of public service, professionalism and respected approach to local government. He said he was honoured to take on the role and looked forward to supporting the Mayor and borough over the coming year.
Maidstone Borough Council also officially welcomed Councillor Brian Clark as the new Mayor of Maidstone for the coming civic year.
During the ceremony, pupils from Maidstone Grammar School, Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, Archbishop Courtenay Primary School and Loose Primary School offered their congratulations to the new Mayor.
We would like to thank Cllr Round for his outstanding service to Maidstone over the past year and congratulate both Cllr Clark and Cllr Spooner on their appointments.
